MUHAMMAD WASEEM RETURNS ON #MTKFIGHTNIGHT
By Anthony Cocks
Former flyweight world title challenger Muhammad ‘The Falcon’ Waseem 8-1 (6) returns to the ring when he takes on John Chuwa 17-3 (9) over eight rounds at Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland on #MTKFightNight on June 22 live on ESPN+.
In his last fight almost a year ago Waseem dropped IBF 112-pound champion Moruti Mthalane in the 11th round only to lose a razor-thin decision to his now MTK Global teammate by scores of 113-114 twice and 111-116.
The defeat has only made Waseem more determined to rise to the top level again, but first he must get past talented Tanzanian Chuwa.
“I’ve seen Chuwa fight before. I know what I can do against him and I’m very confident about beating him. I’ll show I’m a champion on the night,” said Waseem, the WBC number nine and IBF number 14 contender.
“I’m working very hard to be in the best shape and sparring has been very good, so I’ll be ready for whatever Chuwa brings on the night.
The 31-year-old contender from Quetta in Pakistan signed with MTK Global in January before joining Danny Vaughan’s stable at MTK Scotland in April.
Training with Vaughan has left him filled with confidence as he looks to steal the show at the Emirates Arena.
“I’m pleased to be with MTK Global and training with Danny Vaughan. We’ve changed lots of combinations and adjusted my style. Danny is a very good trainer,” said the two-time Commonwealth Games medalist.
“This is a good fight for me to come back with, but I know I’m going to win on the night.”
“I can’t wait for the atmosphere. It’s my debut as an MTK Global fighter and they’re great people who are supporting me. I’m sharp, fit and I just can’t wait for that first bell.”
Joining Waseem on a glittering bill in Glasgow is Lee McGregor’s Commonwealth bantamweight title defence against Scott Allan, Kieran Smith’s WBC International Silver super-welterweight title defence against Ivan Montero plus Lewis Benson vs. Renald Garrido and a busy undercard.
